Lottery chiefs under fire from Casino Fortune
Casino Fortune, the Trinidad-based casino site, has once again threatened
to sue lottery officials over the use of its trademark name.
Lottery officials in Oregon mistakenly used the Casino Fortune name on
a US$10 scratch-card game, and the website has seized on the error to
gain some free publicity.
In 2003 Casino
Fortune gained widespread exposure after threatening to sue the New York
State Lottery over a similar mix-up.
And visitors
to the Casino Fortune site are currently hit with a pop-up window offering
access to an instant lottery game.
A spokesman
for the website said the firm had already gained substantially from the
Oregon State Lotterys error.
Casino
Fortunes windfall from the Oregon Lotterys snafu is over US$500,000
in revenue and counting, Casino Fortune said in a statement.
Officials
for the state lottery said there was no trademark infringement as there
was unlikely to be any confusion between the scratch ticket and the internet
site.
But the online
casino firm remains unconvinced, and said it would be consulting its lawyers
in New York over what it views as a matter of principle.
